Skincare Packaging Trends: How Tube Packaging Is Adapting to New Beauty Routines

Skincare and sun care continue to show strong momentum across major beauty markets, but the more interesting shift is not simply category growth. Skincare routines themselves are becoming more diverse, creating new expectations for how packaging should perform.

According to Circana, sun care sales across its six largest European markets increased 11.6% year over year during the 52 weeks ending March 29, 2026. Within Europe’s prestige beauty market, facial sun care grew 26% in value during the same period. Circana also noted that SPF is becoming less dependent on seasonal use and increasingly integrated into everyday skincare routines.

The momentum can also be seen from the manufacturing side. In Q2 2026, one major Korean cosmetics manufacturer reported that skincare represented 49% of its domestic product mix, followed by sun care at 35% and makeup at 12%. While one manufacturer cannot represent the entire beauty market, the mix provides another indication of the current level of development activity surrounding skincare and sun care.

In the U.S., Circana also reported that prestige skincare sales increased 9% during the first half of 2026, while sun care grew 19%, reinforcing the continued consumer focus on daily skincare and preventive care.

More Skincare Uses Are Creating New Packaging Needs

From LIBO’s perspective, the key change is not simply that more skincare products are being launched. It is that skincare is being used in more ways.

Daily facial SPF, eye treatments, targeted skincare, portable products and sensorial application concepts each create different packaging requirements.

A skincare package may now need to address several questions at once: How should the formula be dispensed? How much should be delivered at one time? Is the product designed for the whole face or a targeted area? Will consumers use it at home, carry it in a bag or reapply it throughout the day?

This is where tube packaging becomes particularly versatile.

LIBO’s current tube portfolio includes screw-cap, flip-top, twist-to-dispense, lip applicator, airless pump, rollerball, dropper-tip and aluminum tube options. Brands can also explore different applicators, caps, materials, capacities and dispensing structures according to the formula and intended use.

1. Tottle Packaging for Everyday Suncare

As SPF becomes more closely connected with daily skincare, sunscreen packaging also needs to work beyond the traditional beach or holiday setting.

Portable size, convenient dispensing and easy handling become more relevant when a product is designed for regular facial application or reapplication throughout the day.

LIBO offers rounded, squeezable tottle packaging in different capacities for suncare and skincare applications. The compact format combines the convenience of a squeezable package with a distinctive rounded silhouette, giving brands another option for facial sunscreen, daily SPF and portable skincare concepts.

For brands developing suncare packaging, the package can therefore be considered not only as a container, but also as part of how easily the product fits into a consumer’s everyday routine.

2. Rethinking the Way a Tube Dispenses

Innovation in tube packaging does not always require a completely new format. Sometimes, changing the interaction between the cap, opening and formula can create a different experience.

LIBO offers a center-dispensing tube featuring a patented internal structure. Users rotate the cap to open the dispensing point in the center and twist it back to close the package.

Compared with a conventional removable-cap tube, the structure integrates opening and dispensing into a single operation while retaining the familiar squeezable format.

For beauty brands, this type of packaging demonstrates how an established format such as a cosmetic tube can still evolve through structural design, giving consumers a different way to interact with everyday skincare products.

3. Bringing Application Into the Package

Another direction we see in skincare packaging is the closer integration of dispensing and application.

Instead of squeezing the formula onto the fingers first, tube packaging can incorporate different applicators that allow the product to be applied more directly to the intended area.

LIBO provides tube options that can be combined with metal roller balls, massage-style applicators and other targeted application heads. These formats can support eye care, localized skincare and other formulas where the method of application is part of the product experience.

The value is not simply adding another component. The applicator should correspond to the formula, application area and intended consumer experience.

For brands developing more specialized skincare concepts, this gives tube packaging greater flexibility beyond basic dispensing.

4. Exploring Different Material Options

Skincare tube development can also begin with material selection.

Plastic tubes provide extensive flexibility in structure, shape and dispensing design, while aluminum tubes offer brands another option when considering appearance, tactile experience and barrier requirements.

LIBO’s aluminum tube options can be developed with different capacities and decoration possibilities, creating a distinctive metallic presentation for skincare and personal care products.

Material selection, however, should not be based on appearance alone. When packaging will come into direct contact with a cosmetic formula, compatibility between the formula, packaging material and any internal coating should also be evaluated.

This allows brands to approach material selection as both a functional and visual decision.

One Tube Format, More Possibilities

There is no single tube design that fits every skincare product.

A daily sunscreen may prioritize portability and easy reapplication. An eye treatment may benefit from a targeted applicator. A cream may require a different dispensing structure, while another product may use material choice to create a particular visual or tactile identity.

This is why we see versatility as one of the strongest values of tube packaging.

Rather than selecting a tube only by size, brands can consider the complete combination of capacity, material, dispensing system, cap, applicator and intended application.

At LIBO, our tube packaging portfolio is designed to give beauty brands more ways to build packaging around how the formula will actually be used. From suncare-ready tottles and center-dispensing structures to applicator tubes and aluminum options, different combinations can support different skincare concepts and routines.

As skincare continues to expand into more formulas, functions and usage occasions, packaging will need to evolve with it.
